Remix specializes in thought leadership, focused on speaking and podcast guest placements. This is the first in a series about how to get and maximize podcast guest opportunities.
Have you ever listened to a podcast and thought hey, I would like to do that one of these days! With more than 5 million podcasts worldwide, there is a podcast for everyone. But how do you get placed as a guest? Here are a few things you can do to increase your chances:
- You can find them yourself OR you can hire an agency (like Remix!) to help place you. There are tools that can help identify the best-fit podcasts for you. But it doesn’t end there.
- Take a close look at each potential podcast to be sure it is truly a fit. Some podcasts, for example, don’t take guests. Others only have celebrity or very well-known guests. You’ll also want to look at the topics covered; are they within your area of expertise?
- Now that you have a short list of target podcasts, you are almost ready to pitch yourself as a guest. First, you’ll need something called a 1-sheet which is basically a summary of you, your topics, your socials, experience/bio, and how to reach you.
- Find the contact at the podcast and craft an email that shares what you like about their podcast – maybe reference a specific episode that you enjoyed, and some of the topics that you can share with their audience (and what they would take away). Let the podcast host/booker know that you would be happy to share the podcast on your socials if you are selected as a guest. Attach your 1-sheet and also provide a link to it.
- Didn’t hear back? Wait a week or so before following up with the podcaster. Politely ask if they’ve had a chance to take a look at your email and see if they’re interested. If not, no problem. There are a lot of other podcasts. If so, congrats!
- When you get confirmation that you’ve been selected, now it’s time to prepare. You’ll want to take a look at our best tips for how to be a great podcast guest and how to Maximize Your Podcast: From Recording to Results.
